Wish I could post ZERO stars! I have had a CS-WX2.0/1D for 14 months and now it suddenly won't let me log in. After a week of back-and-forth with several online solutions and their tech support, I am now told that if I ever want to see my data again I have to pay a third party. The last smart-alecky tech was highly insulted when I politely asked him to not hang up after he gave me factory reset "instructions" (which aren't even published) because I didn't think they would work. He was more aggravated when they then didn't work. I tried to thank him for not hanging up and a get a smart reply of "Sir, you don't have to worry. I told you I'm not hanging up." I am a seasoned IT professional and I doubt this punk kid is worthy of carrying my pocket protector, but regardless, ALL customers deserve more respect - especially after your company has just trashed 2TB worth of their data. If you bother reading your reviews Buffalo, this was case 124436. I will post these rants every chance I get on every website available to warn other potential victims about your messed up products and support. DON'T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!

I agree.  The tech support at this company is terrible.  I have spoken with multiple people who have given me conflicting information and was basically told that since my product was out of warranty I would need to just replace everything.  If the enclosure goes bad the drives are just paperweights and they have advised me to use data recovery services.  Isn't the idea of these units is to replace the part that goes bad whether its a drive or the enclosure?

I have cut out what I deem the unimportant portion of your post.

That being said, due to the lack of information, I might not even be able to help you. Still if the only problem you are having is an issue with password resetting (IE if the unit shows up fine or without issue in NAS Navigator), there is a small utility that was put out a while back which FORCIBLY resets the user credentials, sadly, as of my last call with support, they had to stop even mentioning this tool, including even the name because of the VERY possible security threat it could cause in the work environment.

Still, I dont wish to tempt the BAN hammer myself, but if you simply google:
"""linkstation password recovery"""
Not the first one, but ONE of the search results contains the link for the download of this little utility. ONE WORD OF EXTREME WARNING! As its NOT provided by Buffalo, there is ALWAYS the possibility that the tool will not only reset the password, but ALSO erase the data! Now, I have not had that happen on the LinkStation units I have purchased off of eBay, but thats just that, the LinkStation unit's, I dont have, nor will ever buy the CloudStation model's due to the PoGo-Plug software that is required to use the "cloud" remote file access feature.

Long winded post made short, google is your friend, and search terms are your friend.

What the Support Agents can and cant do sucks, i wont make excuses for the attitude, but imagine how upset they must feel for all those other possible user's who change the default info and forgot it or had the default's corrupted (happened to me on a LS-WV unit during F/W update...

Personal thought: I think they would even do better to offer a PAID resetting service to securely and safely reset the password of device's suffering from this and similar issues...
