I just bought the Linkstation Pro, XHL because of it's advertised SFTP feature.  However I do not see any mechanisim to configure SFTP. I want to secure my FTP access to the my home server, anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure at least one Share is enabled for FTP, Shared Folders> Click on folder> Check FTP (for folder support)> Apply. Then make sure that you have FTP Service enabled, Network> Network Services> FTP> Enable> Apply.

Make sure that you forward ports 20, 21, and 22 on your router to the IP of the LS.

Are you able to access it FTP (preferably using a client not a browser)?

If so, now try accessing it SFTP... What happens?

I cant connect fine with FTP.  After opening up ports 20 and 22 I can also connect with SFTP, however once connected it does not load the directory structure of the share.

Sorry about the delayed response but that is actually a misprint on both the product and our website. Please disregard as these units do not support SFTP. My apologies again for this mistake.

Where did you see SFTP listed for this product? It isn't listed on our website and it isn't on the boxes we have here.

Where did you see SFTP advertised for the LS-XHL?

The SFTP check box shows up in the 1.33 firmaware. When I access the admin console then go to Share Settings then click on the share you get  several support choices, like Windows, Apple, FTP, Backup, and SFTP. However when I check the SFTP box the setting does not stay.  I'm not sure why.  My Buffalo  Model LS-XHL .

SFTP is supported for the TS series.  I have not received indication as of yet as to if/when it will be implemented on the LS series.

I'm glad I found this thread before I wasted my money.

So NONE of the Linkstation models support SFTP?

It's not mentioned in the manual, nor the firmware note, but it is advertised on product pages under Specifications (e.g. LS-WXL), as well as all over the web.

Is Buffalo planning to implement SFTP or was it just listed for the heck of it?

Note the thread title is for a different model.  Different models may have different enabled features.  I have no word on whether this will be implemented in the future or not on the models that don't currently have this service enabled.
