Replacing HDD on LS-X2.0TL

I've destroyed the hard drive in my LS-X20TL.  (Purely my fault... an incident involving an excitable dog, her bushy tail, badly placed hardware, and a stone floor).

I assume that the head crashed;, the drive fell about 40cm onto a stone floor. The drive is still spinning up, but no data is accessible. Fortunately, everything was fully backed up.

I don't see any damage on the controller card or the case, so I'd like to just swap the HDD to revive the device.

I assume that I'll need to some pre-format the drive and install software on it. Are there any instructions available on how to do this?  (Ideally, I'd like to get back to the standard Buffalo software, but I guess I'd also be ok turning this into an open-source NAS. So, I'm interested in instructions in either direction.

Thanks,

David

Exact same problem as this Guy ,

HDD has gone faulty can hear a distinct clicking noise so have opened it up and replaced it with another 2TB hard drive but once booted backup it cannot be found on NAS Navigator.

i presume it must need some kind of special file system restoring onto it before i can see it again in Nas Navi/ Web browse to it?

i have tried formatting the HDD itself on FAt32 and NTFS but no luck there either.

any help would be much appreciated
