LS Mini noise when moving

There is some noise coming out of my LS Mini LS-WSGL/R1 when I move it or turn it slowly as if there would be a fan inside that is slightly touching its cage. I have several external 2.5" HDDs and none of them makes similar noise when being moved. When I put the Link Station back onto the table everything is back to normal, the only thing you can hear when listening carefully is the HDDs spinning.

Does anybody has observed the same? Do I need to worry about a likely short term failure of one of the HDDs?

I have the model LS-WSGL/R1 with 2 500GB HDDs 'MHZ2500BT G2' inside. F/W is v1.06

At this point if the unit is running fine there dosent appear to be a major problem, no need to worry.  We will look in to this and if you are experiancing any more problems give us a call.

Generally, these devices weren't designed to be moved and to help prevent damage to your HDDs I would advise not even lifting the device while it is running. The reader can end up scratching the platters and then it's time to RMA a bad HDD.

Dustrega, that would mean that you shouldn't move or lift your notebook either when it is running - inside the station there is two 'MHZ2500BT G2' Fujitsu 2.5'' HDDs which are designed for notebooks and, therefore, designed for being moved. Fujitsu clearly says in their datasheet 'Ideal for notebooks...' Your statement may apply more to desktop (3.5'') HDDs than notebook ones. So it still worries me that my LS Mini with notebook HDDs inside makes such an unusual noise.

There is no fan in the LS Mini, it uses passive cooling. I was unable to reproduce the noise on our end, and your original post makes it seem like you have multiple units, and only one has the issue. Consider getting a warranty replacement for the unit, as that's definitely not normal.

Moving the device is not as much of a problem since it uses laptop drives, but moving it too much in the wrong way could still damage the device.
