I recently added an external 500GB USB drive to my LS500GL. I also updated to 1,15 FW and latest NAS program.

The purpose of the external 500GB USB was to backup the main drive nightly at 3AM.

I am receiving 30-100 disk error email daily, the errors are disk write errors and NOT always at the time of the backup.

I have done a disk check and it returns OK

Ideas???

Did you format the external HDD to XFS?

To do this:

  1. Log into your web user interface by opening your web browser and typing in the IP address of the NAS found in the NAS Navi utility. (Note: if you don't have the NAS Navi you can get it here).
  2. Login with admin/password
  3. Go to Disk Management
  4. Go to Format Disk
  5. Choose your USB external drive as a target and format in XFS
  6. Once the drive is formatted the errors should stop
Let us know how this works out.
