Secure Lockware on DriveStation Quattro

I have a Buffalo DriveStation Quattro Model# HD-QS4-0TSU2R5. 

Drive is running RAID 5 configuration, NTFS, connected via USB to Windows XP Pro 32-Bit system.

 

I am unable to encrypt the drive with the included Secure Lockware.  I also downloaded and installed the latest version of Secure Lockware from the website and had the same results.

 

These are the steps I am taking:

1.  Start Secure LockWare - Select "Drive Encryption Setup" -->START

2.  Select "Configure Device Encryption" --> START

3.  I receive prompt to "disconnect the device/media to be encrypted and click OK".  I safely disconnect the USB device and click OK

4.  I receive prompt "Reconnect the drive that you want to encrypt and allow it to power up.  Then click OK."   I reconnect the USB cable and wait for the drive to be visible in "My Computer."  Then I click OK.

 

This is as far as the Secure Lockware application will go. I do not receive any windows or prompts after clicking OK at the last prompt.  I have tried this on two computers running Windows XP Pro and on one Vista system, all with the same results.

 

My coworker already attempted this and placed multiple calls to Buffalo support.  They never got past the same prompt and finally determined there were problems with the drive.  He also tried reconfiguring all of the available RAID options on the drive and attempting the encryption.  Our vendor shipped us a replacement, but we are experiencing the same problem again.  

 

What are we doing wrong?  Any suggestions?

Try disconnecting the drive and reboot your computer. Start Secure Lockware, run through the prompts, and only connect the drive after it tells you to "Reconnect".
