Backing Up TeraStation HD-H1.0TGL/R5

I have a HD-H1.0TGL/R5 terastation (firmware 1.12) that is almost full.  I just purchased and installed a HS-DS4.0TGL/R5 terastation (firmware 2.14) and want to copy (backup) the data from the 1TB terastation to the 4TB.  Both terastations connect to a D-Link router via the LAN cables.  I can map to both terastations from any computer on the network and can also "see" both terastations from the NASNavigator.  Both IP addresses are DHCP assigned.

The problem that I am having is that I can not see the other terastation in the "Disk Backup, Tera/LinkStation List" menu of the web interface in order to set up a backup.

Does this make sense?  Can someone help?  Thanks.

Apparently this is by design.  For some reason, Buffalo decided they would not enable their various products, or even versions of the same product, to back up to each other.  I ran into this same problem when attempting to move from a Terastation to a Linkstation.

How can this be true?  They sell the external drives and NAS storage products - (terastations and linkstations) explicitly indicating that backing up from one Buffalo device to another is supported.

I have an HD-HGLAN and an LS-CH1.0TL  - and I'm also unable to get either device to see the other in the "tera/linkstation list" (in the web interfaces, under the backup menu).  The manuals for both devices state that backing up between devices is supported.  (I wouldn't have bought either one if this wasn't the case).

Where are you seeing that backups between buffalo devices are not supported - by design?

NASNavigator2 can see both devices on my network, I can access either one, move files to or between each, but I simply can't get one to backup to the other via the web interface.

Also - oddly, NASNavigator2 has two menu options - one for "folder connections" and one for "folder synchronization".  When I click on either of those menu options, the windows that popup are in Japanese.  I'm using the NASNavigator2 that came on the LS-CH1.0TL (from the "info" folder, under "English" and "Windows")

Due to differing architectures in the operating kernels is the main reason why newer and older drives aren't able to see each other (i.e. LS Live LS-CHL doesn't see an LS HD-HGLAN). These are limitations by the kernel and though you are correct that we manufacture the units we also have to draw the line somewhere. Some devices won't see each other in their respective web admins and unfortunately there is no workaround for this. My apologies.
