Here is the information on my setup:

0. LS-CH1.0TL-US with firmware 1.07

1. Windows Vista SP1

2. Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT v24-sp1

3. Sony BRAVIA KDL-40XBR6

Here is the situation:

0. I can see my LS-CHL on the WORKGROUP network

1. I am able to view, write/delete the LS-CHL and its share folder contents

2. I am able to access files (issue with security in another post)

3. Web Access works

4. Internal Web UI works and configurable

5. When browsing the contents on my KDL-40XBR6 in the XBR, I am able to see the Linkstation under "Photos"

Some specific details relating to my problem

0. I am only able to see my LS-CHL under Photo/LS-CHL302:Linkstation

1. I see under Photo/LS-CHL302:Linkstation with these folders (Music, Photos, Videos)

2. I could only browse for contents in the SHARE folder in my LS-CHL

3. My KDL-40XBR6 can natively support JPEGs, MP3, and MOV when I plug in my USB Flash drive with these filetypes.

4. My SHARE folder has various filetypes (AVI, MOV, MP3, JPEG, BMP), but only JPEGs are viewable under "Photos" folder in Photo/LS-CHL302:Linkstation/Photos

5. I see the folders of their respective filetypes, but the XMB told me "there are no contents to display" when there are files in these folders, and they are accessible under my Vista computer.

Here are my questions/problem:

1. Which filetypes are viewable on my TV stored in LS-CHL, exactly?

2. What type video formats are viewable on my TV via the LS-CHL?

3. Can the LS-CHL make other folders on its hard drive viewable on my TV (not the SHARE folder alone, but other root folders created under the Web UI?

4. Can the LS-CHL stream music/videos to my TV on-demand?

Please reply to my question soon. Feel free to reply for more information. Thanks.

Thanks Jason for the link.

As an avid long-time Sony fan for their pursue of innovation and design excellence, I felt that Sony dropped the ball on this one, meaning they had the dlna support but failed to fully implement it on their TVs. Even more interesting, other people experience mixed results with different Sony BRAVIA TVs. Mine was a recent model (released October 2008) with the latest firmware. There shouldn't be any excuse for Sony not to have dlna properly supported with the Buffalo NAS, particularily the Live 1TB. I specifically purchased this TV along with the Buffalo NAS because they are dlna-certified. Apparently dlna is not anything more than the sticker on these devices, since it doesn't mean nor guarantee anything.

I will consult with Sony through the Tier-2 tech support regarding this matter. I demand a better answer than "oh you want to connect your BRAVIA TV with a third-party device with dlna support? How about considering our Sony media server that's made by us and fully-compatible? No? Sorrie no can do kthxbie." I'm not buying ths answer so they can upsell me proprietary hardware bull.

Advertising that their TV is dlna-certified yet not able to deliver the feature is an act of irresponsibility and false-advertising, I believe.

I posted this message about 6 hours ago and already received 18 views. I'm sure people are interested to get a better answer as to why they spent almost $2000+ on their Sony TV with dlna-sticker on it and another $200+ on their Buffalo NAS when both devices are not working. I'll keep you folks updated on my finding.

Answer: The KDL-40XBR6 (apparently, XBR7 and XBR8 series even) can ONLY view JPEG images through any dlna-certified devices (LS-CHL especially). There are NO audio and video streaming feature in the TV.

I've spoken with a tech support agent at Sony (866-385-7669). After talking to Nathanael for about 15 min, he told me the KDL-40XBR6 can ONLY view JPEG images through the dlna-certified devices and the TV CANNOT stream audio OR videos. He said to go read page 32 of the users guide. The TV can ONLY play MP3s through the USB port.

Way to go Sony. I spent so much $ and that's all I get from the network support.

Check your users manual and look for dlna support for more information.

I wonder what I can do now with my Buffalo NAS now that the TV ditched the video and audio streaming. Anyone out there suggest a workaround? How well does the PS3 handle the LS-CHL streaming?

My LS-XHL works perfectly with my PS3.  It streams extremely fast and has been very reliable.  I belive the XHL & CHL are sister products.

Thanks jeffla. I think I will wait for the PS3 80GB to drop price and give streaming a try. It's too bad the PS3 don't have BRAVIA Sync. Way to go again Sony for working SO hard to complete my home entertainment system. http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/util/emoticonspopuppage" target="_blank">:smileymad:http://forums.buffalotech.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif">

I think there's plenty to play with in the LS-CHL to keep me busy. I haven't able to figured out how to stream audio/video through the Web access page yet, and not to mention setting up security properly. That will appear in another post if I don't see any posts here that could help me.

It's too bad Twonky doesn't work with NAS anymore. I would love to give that a try if it still works.

Try Tversity, I used to use that when I had my older nas which did not stream to the ps3.  I havn't figured out the web access yet either.  Keeps giving me an error box with no message in it.

Oh well,

Jeff

I have also used Orb to stream contect to the PS3 before getting the LS-XHL
