Not a rant just some questions.

I bought a Linkstation Quad 4TB and had a drive failure within 4 hours of opperation.  Also, the unit is quite noisy and seems to be the related to the fan vibrating against the enclosure.

I was using the torrent client and backing up form my home system when this happened.

The http manager did not specify what the error was.   But drive 4 did seem to have some type of error.  Hard to tell.

I restriped the drive back to Raid 5.  It seems to be going well.

Should I return the product?  How difficult and or quick coudl I get this done?  Is the noise level normal or could there be somethingmechanically defficient.

Please reply with your experiences.

Thank you.

mine appears to have the same noise issue, comes and goes and I've only had it for an hour so I've called to return the unit.

I did comment to my wife that the shipper didn't use any packaging materials so the linkstation was just flopping around in a big empty box, maybe it's shipping related?

I have seen issues where devices right out of the box might have a HDD that has fallen off the RAID. Can't really say why but usually a RAID restructure does the trick. Let us know about the condition the device was received in shipping-wise :)

I think the noise I experienced we due to a firewire drive I had running next to it.  I isolated the new unit by placing a dry wash cloth underneath.  Once I'm done migrating my firewire to the Linkstation the firewire's days are numbered anyway.

The issue with the Raid failing may have just been a bad drive.  #4 in the unit kicked out twice.

The place I ordered mine from did a horrifyingly bad job shipping it.  They treated it like a pair of sneakers!  The ship of the unit from Buffalo was much better.  If I was Buffalo I'd stop letting this reseller sell it.

Unfortunately, this is a forum that isn't really monitored by what we should/shouldn't be doing with our re-sellers, however your response has been noted. Thanks for the feedback :)
