Hello,

I'm having major difficulties with my LinkStation Live (LS-CH1.0TL).

I'm trying to connect external usb devices to LinkStation to be able to direct copy the content to LinkStation using this:

http://www.buffalotech.com/knowledgebase/users/kb.php?id=10257&category_id=0&sid2=

I've tried Canon D1000, Canon Ixus 860IS, Canon S100, different memory sticks, Lacie drives etc. No function light - no usb devices in NASnavigator - nothing.

Only device that is recognized is one Lacie drive which was formatted using NASnavigator...

Does that mean that the device should be NASnavigator formatted (no mention in KB, manual or box - where the advertised Direct Copy function is mentioned)?

LinkStation FW version is 1.07 - if that matters...

Help anyone?

You need to format the drive to xfs through the chl.  And it will only be used with this device and it's made to backup the ls to the usb drive.

Thanks Kameran.

I still don't quite get it. You are saying that the usb port can only be used for backup purpose and only into LinkStation formatted drives - right?

I'm just wondering how this translates to that:

"Key Specifications • One touch transfer of media files from digital camera/camcorder with Direct Copy feature" (as found in manual, package and Buffalo wed site)

Hi,

I dont know if you ever got an answer to this, but i have had the same problem. The ONLY way i could get the Linkstation to recognize my usb HDD was to copy 290gb of data to my pc THEN attach it to the linkstation and format through there. I stupidly formatted it in XFS so then it couldnt be read by my mac or pc. I had to then reformat it through the linkstation using fat32 and copy 290gb of data back onto the drive. A task which took quite some time.

The worst part is, the linkstation now recognises the usb disk and i can browse to it through the network share, however it will not direct copy the usb disk at all :(

Hi,

Is this problem ever going to get addressed. I Bought a quad for this very reason - one touch download of media files from usb drive(s) used whilst on holiday collecting all those pictures.

I can get it to work once every so often, restarts of the linkstation, being logged into the control panel, not quite sure - have made it work once in about every 10 attempts.

Can we please have a solution to this as it is the reason I bought this device and not another.

Thanks

Hi,

Anyone got an answer from Buffalo tech support on this issue ?

I own a Linkstation Duo, and can not use the Direct Copy feature with any USB Camera, USB disk, USB stick...

Manuel.

What is the target directory in the user interface set to for direct copy and furthermore what firmware version are you running on the NAS?

manuel

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

The target directory in the user interface is set to a dedicated share that I created specifically for this Direct Copy feature

(ie. I named it DirectCopy if that matters....)

I currently run the latest version of the firmware available on the Buffalo web site as of August 2010: FW1.33

Regards,

Manuel.
