Hi there I was wondering if you could help me!

I bought a 1 tb Drivestation, the eco mode version at the beginning of january. About two weeks after I got it, my computer decided to not recognise the drive, but I assumed it was the laptops fault and just reformatted the drive. However last night I got an error saying the I couldn't access the drive again as it needed to be formatted. So basicly I just lost 500 gb worth of files, however they are backed up. I always safely remove the device so thats not the problem, so I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with the hardware. I have confirmed through the disk manager that the disk is healthy, but it has converted back into the RAW format. Is there anything I can do to make this drive more reliable or will I just get my money back?

Thanks,

Jenna

Since this keeps happening it seems that it the best solution would be to contact technical support and get this one replaced, if it happens again there could be a file corrupting the drive.

I had the same problem with Buffalo DriveStation Quatro 4TB I just purchased.  The disk array is configured RAID5 with one large NTFS partition: 2795 GB.  I had over 2000GB already copied onto the drive when this problem occurred.  I suspect that maybe the RAID controller went castors up when the amount of data exceeded the compatibility limit of 2048GB.  It is only a guess.

This incidence is another reason that MicroSoft file systems are extremely unreliable.  I was assuming that my data was secure by having a RAID5 array.  However, with the file system corrupted, having redundancy with 4 drives provided no protection from this data loss.  Further, if I could recover the data using a recovery tool for purchase, I would still need to purchase another large storage system to store the recovered files.

Is there any tool which can restore the file system and save my data when it is in this RAW state?

Hoping for a positive answer,

Margaret

Our Drivestation Quatro did the same thing, reverted to Raw status after a computer restart.  Not sure how much was on it.  Did you get an answer for the problem from tech support?
