Permissions in Web Access

I've just recently upgraded the firmware of my Linkstation Live 250 to the 2.11 Beta version, as the upload capability interests me.  I live in Europe and the rest of my family is in North America.  I hope to use this function to share family fotos both back and forth.

Although very basic, the Web Access function seems to be working fine.  I do have one question though.  Is there a way to disable the delete function for the files listed?  I do not want my computer incompetant parents/sister accidentally deleting my digital memories.

I know that the OS within the system is *nix, and that the delete permission may be linked with the write / create but I would like to have the ability to recieve pictures, without giving the right that others delete.  A test with the trash option last night gave a first impression that anything i created and subsequently deleted over the web access IF did not create a trashbox.  I will try to verify this again later today.

i have a linkstation mini and use the webaccess feature.

all you need to do is create a local user account using the Web GUI, and give that user read permissions to your pictures share.

they will then be able to dload your pictures through the webaccess as long as you have enabled your pictures share for web access.

i would suggest then a separate share called uploadfolder ... give the local user you created above read/write permissions to this share and enable it for webaccess.

then they will be able to upload pictures to that share.

so they upload to one share ... and you would have to then copy the pics to your pictures share.

at least then the integrity of your picture archive will be intact.

worse case is someone will delete files from the uploadfolder share ... but no real big thing..

Tried various methods without the success i was looking for.

In the web access i could only turn of the rename / delete links by setting the global permissions to reed only.  These override the individual user settings, and make the whole folder unwritable.  Any other settings regardless of user permissions allowed the webaccess user to delete files.  Even worse, although the folder settings activated the trash function, the deleted files did not show up there.

using the FTP software filezilla I had more success.  here the global folder settings could remain read/write for the PC users within the local home network, and a single user could be made with read only rights which also were respected from the ftp tool accessing the linkstation via the internet.
