NAS + cloud solution such as ZipCloud, CrashPlan, Carbonite, etc in Windows?

Has anyone succesfully set up their Linkstation or other NAS with a consumer grade cloud backup product?  I've been looking into and trying several but have run into problems.  ZipCloud seems to be the only one I've found that natively supports Networked Drives as a backup folder in their desktop app but requires an additional fee of $99/year for doing so... which would be ok if I could get it work.  Their prompt to add a network drive looks like this:

but I haven' t been able to get it to work.  I'm unsure if the username and pw it's asking for is the same as I use to connect to my Linkstation via the web interface or the local user account with permission to access the drive.  Neither works.  I'm not on a domain so I've left it blank and tried the name of the workgroup but that hasn't worekd either.  ZipCloud's FAQ on the matter is here:

Crashplan does not natively support Networked Drives over Windows but provide this unsupported solution for those that need it:

I've tried following the guide without any luck.  Some users on their forums have provided other solutions I'm also looking into in a 4 year old thread of folks angry that Crashplan has still not implemented this feature:

Carbonite only has the feature in their business plan which start around $230/yr. for 250GB.  I'm not opposed to paying it if it will backup my NAS easily enough but am holding off until I've exhausted the other [cheaper] options above.

Does anyone have other experiences getting these to work with a Cloud backup?  Before I moved all my data to the NAS I had it seamlessly backed up with Carbonite and really enjoyed the peace of mind that came with it and the versioning carbonite does by default.  I'd like to get a similar solution now on the NAS and never imagined it would be this complicated.
