Pretty new linkstation pro 3tb.

I stored a 600gb data on it. No problems so far. It's just that occasionally i hear a brief clicking sound. It's completely random like even when i am not accessing the drive, it might come up. However other than that sound, everything works good. Should i worry? Is it a bad HDD?

This isn't 100% related, but thought I'd try here before starting a new thread.  I've noticed in the last few days that my LS-XHL 1.0 Tb (3 years-ish old) has started spinning up very frequently.  It's basically a storage and backup device so it doesn't get calls to work very frequently.  At most it would be once an hour for Time Machine, but as I type this I'm noticing that my Time Machine is OFF (don't know how/when that happened).  I hear it vibrate multiple times an hour, usually for 10 -15 seconds or less.  By the time I hear and walk over to the drive to feel it, it's done.  It is in the same area as 3 other drives, so I wasn't certain it was the LS until I heard and felt it at the same time.

What would make a drive spin up more than usual?

Okay, this is getting annoying. It's been a week and i still hear that clicking sound. But there is no error reported to my mail. The sound is just ticks me off and it worries me that i will lose the stored data. Tried contacting the buffalo support but there is no response so far. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but let me point out some things i noticed during this week. The device is always on since i need the online sharing option and runs quietly other than that random clicking sound. I use win7 and sometimes while in the windows explorer i notice that my drive shortcut gets that 'X' symbol which indicates that the device is not connected. However, when i try to browse folders in the drive, there is no problem. So it's a kind of false indication in which i found no meaning. Depending on the answers i get from buffalo support or from here, i might try to restore the factory settings to check it like that, though i am reluctant to do it since i need to move my data which is a hard task considering i need to move part by part to match my disk storage. And another thing, i don't think this issue is related to my pc being on since i can hear that sound even my pc is off. I tried closing all the sharing activities to no result. Any ideas to prevent that sound would be really appreciated.

As for your problem nicolef207, try updating your firmware and restoring to the factory settings. If those doesn't work, it might be a power related issue. Check your adaptor and connections. In the worst case, the servo motor might be faulty. Don't know how to fix that.
