How to reset Terastation HS to factory state

First, the background.  I have had a Terastation Home Server for some years now, running telnet-enabled firmware 2.14 in Raid 5 mode.  I use the device as a media server running Twonky and have generally found it does the job but I have had problems since a disk crash.  Although I successfully managed to replace the disk, restore my data and reinstall Twonky, it now appears that Twonky loses its config settings everytime I reboot.  This forces me to enter my registration key and other config settings manually each time.  I'm not a Linux expert but do have a technical background and the only suspicious thing I can see is that the startup process is creating the directory /mnt/array1/twonkymedia upon reboot EVEN AFTER I have uninstalled Twonky and manually deleted all remaining references to Twonky that I can find.  I've tried to get to the bottom of the issue on some Twonky forums but have had no joy.  So, what I would like to do now is to reset my Terastation to its factory state so I can reinstall everything from scratch, but that's not proving to be a simple task either.

 

I've tried using the red button, I've tried reflashing the firmware, I've tried reverting to official Buffalo firmware, I've even tried using EM mode.  Whatever I do, and despite the Terastation returing to factory config settings, the startup process still creates the /mnt/array1/twonkymedia directory and, if I install Twonky, it still loses its settings upon reboot.  It seems to me that none of the things I've tried so far are completely initialising the Terastation system and there must be some scripts that are remaining untouched.

 

Could someone please tell me what I need to do to get a clean Terastation as a starting point?  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious so please don't hold back if I am!
