I am getting an error that is cannot find HD2  I have Tried to rediscover the disk and I can hear it spin up but it still cannot find it.  So my question, how do I replace this disk without loosing data, it is set up as part of a 4 disk  Raid5 array.

any help will be appreciated.

Davo,

The Error message I am getting is E16 and if I remember correctly E13.  It is currently running and I have access to all the files (from a compulsory check).  I dont remeber the exact firmware off the top of my head but I want to say somethign like 1.14? I will remotely log in tonight when I get time to find the exact firmware.  I have never upgraded from the original as I found in the past when things work doent fix them!

When you check tonight get the exact error codes from the NAS navigator also, these are important.

Davo,

I apologise for not doing my proper diligence, I just RTFM'ed and believe all I need to do since running in Raid 5 is remove and replace the drive (and all that entails), I will also be ading a USB drive for additional redundancy in the case of loosing a future drive.  Do you recommend any specific brand of drive to replace the 1TB drive currently in place?

LOL fair enough, try the Drivestation USB range (Buffalo). Look at the HD-LBU2 range.

OK maybe I am still missing something.  I removed the bad drive from the array, now I put in the new drive and formatted it.  How do I put it back in the array without losing data?

davo

System -> Storage -> Array1 (under your raid array options) -> Rebuild Raid.

Davo,

I used the webadmin page and tried rebuilding the array but that did not work.  Quite intersting it also now reports that HD4 is not working.  So I removed the Array and rebuilt it using all 4 drives, I had used a spare USB drive to do a complete backup originally so I will just copy the data back if needed.  It seems that rebuilding the array also "fixed" the problem with HD4.  I am now wondering if there is really anythign wrong with the other drive I removed.  I am goign to put it in another PC and see if it works, if it does I will have it as a spare for the future.  Can you please explain what the commands are you listed and how to use them, for future knowledge
