I have 2 BUFFALO DriveStation Quad 4-Bay 16TB connected to iMac with USB 2.0 hub running Lion OSX.  I can only get 5MB write speed and about 11MB read speed.  I can get faster R/W to Synology NAS at about twice the speed.  Local R/W is 60 write and 90 read.  Is this normal?

As the product is now discontinued I don't think the company technicians care enough to post a solution.  I have also noticed similar lack of concern for other products from Buffalo.  It will be the last Buffalo product for me.

A solution to what exactly? You have two buffalo devices and one MAC,you have not even said if you have tested it on a second MAC or PC. USB2.0 has a standard transfer rate of around 20MB/s, this coupled with the fact you are using RAID5, I'd say the transfer speeds you are getting are not abnormal.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
