Strange data loss.. Recovery possible?

Hi,

I have the Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo 2x2TB running in RAID 0 mode. I have multiple shared folders. For one of them, suddenly ALL data was gone and I have noticed that about 50% of the data was moved to the trashbox of the folder. I can't find the rest of it. I have no idea how this happened -- I certainly did not delete the data... Now: No lights are flashing and nothing seems out of the ordinary, so I guess both drives are still fully functional.

1. What could be the cause of this strange data loss?
2. Is it possible to recover the lost data? For now, I just switched off the NAS and didn't touch anything and of course didn't move the existing data from the trashbox back to where it was as I was afraid that some free blocks belonging to the lost data might be overwritten in the process. Since recovering the data is really important to me, I hope somebody can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.
