Hi All,

I just purchased the BUFFALO LinkStation Pro 4 TB High Performance Network Attached Storage (NAS) - LS-V4.0TL with a BUFFALO DriveStation Axis 4 TB USB 3.0 Dekstop Hard Drive - HD-LB4.0TU3 so that I can make an offsite backup of the NAS to the USB drive. The NAS only supports USB 2 and the USB drive is USB 3 but it's backwards compatible with USB 2 so I thought that it would work okay. The problem I'm seeing is that the NAS cannot format the USB drive without an error. Am I not doing something correctly? Suggestions?

Thanks

Good thought but it looks as if the Firmware is current on the NAS.

Hello Davo,

I am aware that you asked a question.  The "?" at the end of your post  was very helpful.  However, I assumed that you were simply trying to see if I had upgraded the firmware to the latest version as most people do in this scenario as part of the routine troubleshooting process.  Perhaps being more specific in your questioning might help get a more specific answer.

Please do not continue trying to resolve this issue.  With your help I have decided to just return my Buffalo equipment and go another route as I don't want to spend any more time on Buffalo products.  I have yet to find a Buffalo product that works perfectly out of the box as advertised as I have with other manufacturers.  I need a product that works out of the box for both my personall and business needs.  I just bought this particular NAS because it was cheap nd thought it was worth a chance.  Lesson learned.

Thanks and have a great evening!

fair enough but you still hadnt even given the basic amount of information for anyone to help. This includes the firmware version. Saying you have "the latest" is not exactly helpful, the web admin page could say you have the latest but you still may be several revisions behind.
