Hi

I got my dad's old Linkstation LS-CHL that he had laying around.

When i first connected it to the internet and used NasNav2 to find it on my mac, it was in EM mode, after a long time research and many failed tries, i found a program called NasRecovery and used a windows computer to run it.

After that i could finally access it and go to the web-access too. In there i could see all the old files my dad had put on there, but not access them. Also i wasnt able to create new folders since i wasnt able to choose "volume" og do a disk check. Therefore i though the best thing to do would be to format it through the web access.

This was slow, very slow. Had it running overnight, but it was stuck at 173 gb, so about 15% and wouldnt go further. So i tried restarting the device. I could still see it, but in NasNav it said something like "Not-formated"

I tried formatting was again, this time it was stuck at 40gb.

I went back to one of the previous things i tried, firmware updating, the LinkStation is on firmware 1.24 until now i wasnt able to find it in any update program. But suddently when trying the mac it could see it. After a few failed updates where it said something like "Couldnt remove old file" i actually went through the update, until it said "restarting device" which it failed. Now i wasnt able to find it again, and when booting it up it flashes red. 2 slow blinks then 5 quick. And i couldnt see it again.

After a few boot ups with me holding the "Function" key i got it back into EM mode and was able to run the recovery program again.

Now it goes through the same progress as the first time, but when it tries to boot up in product mode, after a few minutes it says:
"Linkstation has been booted as not product mode Mode (2)

Aborted"

So it's still in EM mode, but the light is blue now.

Sorry for the long post, but thought everything might be needed.

Any help?

Regards

Joakim

Tried the updating again, after a few tries i got further than before, it counts down 120 seconds restart time, did it for about 30 minutes.

Then it said it was succesfully updated! And i can recognize it also as a 1.60 firmware now.

In the end of this update the blue light changed from blue to red, (the color i was talking about it the origianl post most have been orange blinking since this is much more red)

I now blinks 3 times which from what i have read means:

"3 flashes - Partition problem with hard drive. Reformat the hard drive."

I'm able to open web access again. Should i try to formatting it again through that? Or can i do it through my mac? Does the ethernet cable work for this or would i need another type of cable?

Regards

Joakim

Jokimo

So all of the sudden the harddrive is faulty?

That means there's nothing to do then, right?
