My issue started with problems accessing the drive.  Short access is fine, but prolonged access is problematic.  When backing up, the drive vanishes off the network for a few minutes then comes back on.  It does this repeatedly with 30min to 1 hours of use each time.  There are no visual error indications.

Second problem: in the last 2 weeks the drive keeps beeping and powering down. The fan doesn't work at any time. I presume it is over heating.

I have the latest firmware and Buffalo NAS Navigator installed.

The drive is only 6 months old.  However I don't want to just send it back because it has a number of computers backed up on it and I have nowhere else big enough to store all the information.

If the fan doesn't work, that's a problem that can't be resolved without an RMA replacement.
