I installed a single 2TB drive as "disk 1" into my Buffalo LS-WVL/E NAS  this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165483" target="_blank" title="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165483">http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822165483 ).  I copied a lot of files to that single drive.  I installed a second 2TB drive into the "disk 2" slot and let the NAS format this new drive.  Now, I'd like to setup RAID 1 configuration.  This particular NAS supports "EDP".

If I setup the RAID 1 configuration, will I lose the data on disk 1?  See the screenshot attached.  If I click that "create raid array" button, will I lose everything on disk 1? Disk 2 is empty. not directly. another confirm dialog will appear.  But changing the disk usage mode results in loss of data. see manual:

Several RAID modes are available for LS-WXL and LS-WSXL LinkStations. LinkStations with only one
hard drive do not support RAID modes.
Note:– All data is lost when the RAID mode is changed. Back up any important data before
changing RAID modes.
– In this document, "Recovery" means putting the LinkStation back to the state it was in
before the malfunction happened. It does not mean reading data from broken hard
drives.
– When the use mode of the hard disk is changed, all the data in the hard disk gets deleted.
Please take back-up before changing use mode so that the important data will not
be lost.

Okay, so let me see if I can better explain the problem I face.

I had a single 2TB drive that I used in a desktop to store files.  I wanted RAID 1 to protect me from a single hard drive failure.  I bought the buffalo NAS and another 2TB drive.  I installed the new, blank drive in the NAS and copied the contents of the old drive to the drive in the NAS.  I formatted the old drive, and stuck it into the NAS.

Is there any way I can get my data into a RAID 1 configuration without buying yet another 2TB drive or burning a ton of DVD's?  I really want to avoid buying another drive just to use for a couple of hours.

In the RAID array panel, If you click on the EDP link instead of the Array 1 link it will take you into an interface where you can create a mirror while preserving the data from one of the hard drives.  If you have established the data on the hard drive that was installed first in the NAS this should do exactly what you are looking for.

It worked!  Thanks!

I love this little NAS.  I'm so glad I got it.

Can you please post a pic of the screen where this option is available. Manual does not give such specifics.

Thanks
