Can't get to linkstation UI

HS-DH500GL is non mostly responsive. I can change it's IP address (thru NAS Navigator); tracert (on Windows) gives me evidence that the brick is alive and responding to the IP -- as I change the IP, tracert to the old IP fails, and the new works. Browsing to that IP gets "Unable to connect".

Things tried:
* Reboot everything -- done that.
* Double reboot (simultaneous reset and reboot) -- done that.
* Isolate to just PC and brick. Almost -- using a dumb hub (not switch or router).
* Install new firmware -- Does not work. It can't find the Linkstation. Or maybe the version is wrong -- 2.x is the only version available on the website. And I can't tell what version I have.

Blinking lights?
About the time it stopped functioning it, the error light blinked a pattern of 4 -- fan troubles? So, I rebooted (button on front). Then it seemed ok, but perhaps this is when it 'died'.
Currently, whenever I poke it it (via tracert / browser) the Link/act light seems to flicker. But since it the brick seems to always be scratching itself, so I don't know if this is just a coincidence.

Am I SOL? Should I ask for an RMA, and lose the data stored one it?

Sorry, buddy but I had the exact same problem. My unit is still under warrantee and the replacement will be here Wednesday. The one good thing is their support told me when the new unit gets here I can try swapping the HD. No guarantee it will work, but it's at least hope that I haven't lost everything.

So, if you are under warrantee (less than a year old) call support. They will try a few things to try the firmware flash, if and when they fail you'll get a replacement.  Out of warrantee - out of luck.

I'll let you know if the HD swap works or not. The tech seemed to think the firmware didn't reside on the HD, so the swap shouldn't be a problem. I find that a bit hard to believe, but I'm not a Linkstation expert.

This happend to me also.  Updated the firmware from http://www.buffalotech.com/support/getfile/?HS-DHGL_211_101b.zip" target="_blank">http://www.buffalotech.com/support/getfile/?HS-DHGL_211_101b.zip and it's all better now.  I could not effort to send the drive away because the data was irreplacable.

   Thanks.
1. had to change IP address for that 100MB update to think about talking to the LinkStation.
2. Ran the update; it downloaded the 100MB, then
3. "ACP_STATE_FAILURE ... Updating us aborted"
