All my files have been deleted, left with nothing but empty folders !!!

This is a total nightmare. I came back from holidays to find that all my movies and music have been deleted or are hiddden on my linkstation LS-WXL518. The drive had frozen and was not responding so I was forced to unplug the box, could this have destroyed all the files? There are a few mp4 files and iso files but other than that all thats left are the empty folders and sub folders. The strange thing is that in the proerties of the drive the used space is still the same as before, the disk is nearly full and there are 17000 files so are they hidden?

Any help would be really appreciated.
