Users, groups and permissions

Hi, 

 

I have problems to preserve users, groups and permissions when I try to copy files and folders from my linux (OpenSuse) machine to Buffalo Linkstation Mini. 

 

Firstly, when I had only default users (admin and guest) defined in Linkstation, my copies got uid=99, gid=99 and more permissions than the original ones. I transfered files with tar and it gave the following warnings:  

 

Cannot change ownership to uid 1000, gid 100: Permission denied 

 

After that I defined a new user in Linkstation and I gave this user's username and password when I mounted the NAS in my linux machine. Now, when I copy files to Linkstation their group is "users" as I want, but the username is mysterious "messagebus" and still files get extra permissions and tar gives warnings.

 

What is this "messagebus" and what I should do to keep users, groups and permissions preserved in my copies?

Jim71,

   As with our AD users this device does not support individual file/folder permissions.  The only way that access restrictions can be set is through the Shared Folders>Shared Folders Setup and even so can only be set up for restriction on the root level (i.e. the same folder level as info).  I'm sorry but at this time the device cannot be configured via command line nor do I see that functionality being added in the near future.
