Hi Dustrega,

I just copy the part of my first message:

"I have Windows Vista Business installed, as well as ZoneAlarm Security Suit 7.1 and VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i. As I already mention the Nas Navigator 2.11 was installed and booted automatically with Windows. My home network based on simple ADLS-Router with 5 ports. LinkStation connected to one of them)."

So I have a computer that is hardwired to the same router as the LS and it is not solve the problem. What will be your advice for wired network?

Hello,

I am a new LinkStation owner.

I am also quite sad to realize my wifi MacBook Pro won't wake up the NAS even if it advised "Bonjour compatible"

I can offer a pretty poor solution (!), but it might give some help...

There is this nice little soft named "WAKEUP"

which gives us to possibilty to wake up a distant Mac.

It works both thru wire and wifi. I often use it with my old iBook G3 that runs as a iTunes jukebox thru Remote Desktop.

I'll also use this soft to wake up a wired Mac to trigger the LinkStation.

I tried to use it directly with the LinkStation but it does not work :smileysad:http://forums.buffalotech.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif" border="0">

Allright, now let's hope Buffalo people will also wake up to find us a solution!!!!!!

Here is a better solution : WakeOnLan (www.readpixel.com) is another freeware that does the job to... wake up computers on the lan.

This one wakes up the NAS form a wifi MacBook, but more... if I get it right, it will keep sending "keep alive" data so the NAS won't fall asleep (Awake Status Interval in the preferences).

Please test this and let me know how much am I a dreamer!

Thanks for the link, it works great on my Mac, I now have a wired Vista running NASnavigator2 & an XP laptop with NASnav2 connected Wifi and my wired Macbook pro with WakeOnLan ! hopefully Buffalo will sort this out.

Same problem here.

Macbook, os x 10.5.6, linksys wrt54gl, linkstation ls-xh1.0tl.

Buffalo NAS turns off in auto mode.

Third party app, WakeOnLan, schedule interval option ranges NOT LESS THAN 5 min which takes too long, as the sleep procedure of buffalo drive starts before magic packet from WakeOnan is sent. So WakeOnLan lets nas drive sleep, and wakes it up after it's slept.

Buffalo, is there a possibility to change the default sleep time in auto mode?

Or (anyone) is there a way to set WakeOnLan to send magic packet in less then 5 min. intervals?

Found solusion, if anyone interested:
1. get and modify (MAC address and IP, remove the part "open dialog") script: http://forums.dealmac.com/read.php?4,2751523" target="_blank">link

2. get the CronniX (3.0.2) to edit a crontab; tell it to run a script with command "osascript" instead of default "open" every 4 min. (*/4)

3. Your Linkstation works without a flaw - wakes up when you log in, sleeps when you log out. No further assistance needed, no programs running on startup, etc.

Cheers, 138

As an after note they didn't fire me I'm alive and well here just been busy with other projects. Secondly, I understand that the auto power function is going to be phased out, but I have yet to receive confirmation on this. As with Mac it is specified that the NAS is compatible, generally the question to be answered for compatibility is thus:

Does it connect via SMB? Yes. <-Compatible

This is not the first NAS that has not had all functions or software work with Mac.

Some of our PC users until recently had questioned compatibility with Windows 7 and currently most of our firmware updaters don't work with it (hence the tentative firmware release in October). That's not to say that the device itself doesn't work with Windows 7 it's just gonna take a little time for us to figure out where the bugs lie and fix them as we go. In any event the concern for my silence is appreciated it's just that I am one person and eventually there are other things I turn my attention to from time to time.

I have the same problem on my Linkstation Mini firmware version 1.6. In auto mode, it's unusable as it keeps dropping off the network. This was one of the big selling features that attracted me to the product.

The issue as discussed is simply that it is not sending the keep-alive packets often enough. Please can Buffalo fix this my reducing the time between keep-alive packets so that it does not keep trying to sleep.

BTW I think Buffalo support is appalling and the quality of your firmware is below standard for even a beta product. Your response about not having time, focusing on another projects, phasing out functionality is not acceptable. There are a lot of people who have spent a lot of money on these products today and the functionality advertised does simply not work. It seems that rather than address them the company is more interested in fobbing people off and ignoring complaints.

It is the law that products must be as described and must be fit for purpose.

Hi,

you CAN set any value as an interval range in WakeOnLan:

use the 'export' menue entry,

edit in the resulting (text) file the interval for the LinkStation (set it to 3 or whatever value you like),

re-'import' the file,

done!

WakeOnLan's help describes the structure of the import/export file.

I didn't have much time to test WakeOnLan, but so far it works better than the NasNavigator2.
