What country are you located in? The only reason I ask is because Web access is being shutdown in the EU/UK so you might be flogging a dead donkey trying to fix it.

I keep having to change my WebAccess name becuase buffaloNas.com won't recognize it. I'll be able to use a name for a day or two, maybe a couple of weeks, then I get the message Invalid BuffaloNAS.com name. Anyone have any ideas on why this happens?

Yes, LSUpdater is a valuable tool alright. Buffalo have provided a real bit of 'get out of jail' software there. I've resurrected my LS-WXL numerous times with it.

Windows 10 requires SMB2 at a minimum to operate, this NAS only has SMB1

That's the nub of it.Your options on the NAS end are involved (opening it up to SSH and modding the samba config program to allow SMB2) OR you could allow SMB1 on Win10 - that's the "security risk" bit referred to above. Windows deliberately disabled SMB1, with good reason.

I don't know Windows well enough to advise on how to do it but there is probably 'how to' info just a web search away.

GMail has gotten a heckuvalot more picky about non-OAUTH2 connections. We sort of like to suggest SMPT services these days, ala smtp2go.com

^^^^ This, ime at least. I had to replace app passwords with OAuth on other devices - bit of a pfaff but doable as there's some simple tutorials out there on the web. That was obviously no good for my old NAS box so I tweaked it to use tftp to copy a message text/body to a server that'd then send it. I think the standard maintenance message (disk check etc) is readable as a "dead.letter" file somewhere (root home directory??) but I've yet to confirm that - if so, I'm hoping to add a further tweak and have it sent again as an email

Looking for some pointers here, to something that's just started happening.

I run my LS-WXL in auto mode, with a 'custom sleep' script that keeps the device alive whilst there is activity on it (I rarely have a Windows PC on). I simply send WOL requests to the LS-WXL whenever I need it. All was working fine but then the LS-WXL stopped waking from sleep - the blue light just keeps on flashing. It's pingable but not fully awake/online.

I've had the disks out, checked them and they're fine. I've even formatted them and restored the stock LS-WXL firmware (I'm WAY too experienced at that now!) but still no joy. Simply running the LS-WXL in on/off mode works fine too, it always boots up cleanly (or has at least not failed yet)

From previous rebuilds (using the LSUpdater utility) it seems the data partition is getting trashed. Anyone any ideas as to why/how? 

(It's great to see this forum back, I thought it was gone for good!!)

Edit: strike that, it's getting trashed (i.e. not powering up, blue light continues to blink) when using the timer settings also. Time for a new NAS methinks :(

It's been a while (due partly due to forum migration) but I've developed a work around. No, I haven't been able to enable ssh FROM the LS-WXL but I have fashioned a solution to my needs with tftp. Running a tftp server on another device, I can send messages from the LS-WXL. It's a bit noddy but it works!

The LS-CH1.OTL is from 2008, so 17 years old. Why anyone would buy a 17 year old device and expect it to work on modern hardware is beyond me.
Basically, Windows 10 requires SMB2 at a minimum to operate, this NAS only has SMB1, there are work arounds but it's a major security risk.

Just buy a newer NAS.

Call support, or start a chat. the key is to remove the bad drive, but you'd better be -danged- sure which drive it is, because if you pull the wrong one, you're toast. They can help with your best chance of recovery. get anything that is -absolutely irreplaceable- to a safer location asap.
