Title: HS-DH320GL dissapeared ??? can't find it !
Post by: alanchughes on January 11, 2010, 04:45:38 AM

:mansad:

Hi I have an HS-DH320GL which I have used for a year or so and has served me quite well. But it seems to be a bit hit an miss finding media. I added a networked receiver yesterday which could find the music I wanted.

I changed a few things round in the directories and updated the media in the DLNA window and flashed the database 2 times. Then I got an error which said it had an invalid IP address, I chnged the fixed address to DHCP and still got an error on the NAS navigator and no access to the shared drive. Then the Linkstatiron dissapeared completely and the NAS Navigator now can't find it at all. I have tried a hard reset by holding the reset button on the back down for 30 secs and it's still not there. The Linkstaion appears to start find and does not show any errors on the front panel just the on LED (constant) and the data / Network LED (thesecond one down) as normal.

Help !!!!! I am worried about my photos and other data !

Alan

Download the most recent version of Nas Navi which is 2.22 from our download section.  Make sure all of your anti-virus and firewall software is shut down.  Reset the unit again by hold down the reset button down for about 20 sec and power cycle your network.  After that open up Nas Navi and see if it can pick it up.  If it can try to map a drive by going to your run box and type in \\ipaddress and hit enter. See if it will pull up your shares.  Its hard to trouble shoot the issue sense the unit isnt throwing any error messages out.

Thanks I'll give this a try although I'm sure I've already tried something similar. I'm going to try the TFTP restart tonight an see if that fixes it.

If the unit is booting up and its not throwing any error messages out then the TFTP wont work.  The TFTP is when it lost the boot image and it cant boot up the Kernal.  Try the EM mode boot and see if it can pick it up.

OK, Where can I find FW 2.22 ?. I can only see 2.11b. I was hoping with TFTP procedure I could load new frmware as I suspect this may be corrupted.

The firmware version is 2.11 the Nas Navigator Client Utility is 2.22.  When you download the firmware you will extract it then run the lsupdater.exe file.

Tried EM mode and found it. It reports that it's in EM mode and to updade firmware or contact technical support. I tried to update firmware and just get "A problem caused the program to stop working..." Treid \\ipaddress and it said "a device attached to the system is not functioning" any other ideas ?

Boot your PC into safemode with networking.  Did you download the firmware wirelessly?  If so download it off of a hard wired connection.

did a wired download and it worked. ran the install program and it run until the reboot pahse when it wasn't detected by the software and then the unit went into error mode with the error light flashing 4 times. it does appear that the fan is now not working (although it was yesterday, I noticed that)

Do you think this could be a firmware problem rather than a genuinely broken fan ? it seems a little coincidental Also the unit has dissapeared again now and just stops working. From other accounts fan errors don't stop the drive working al together !

!  I'll try another new firmware update tonight if I can.

You can try the force firmware update.  Make sure that your downloading the firmware from the Region that you purchased it from.

Josh, Looking at this "KB#000002 - LED Flash Code Explanation and solutions: LinkStation Pro and Live" the four flashes of the error light means a flash error which makes more sense to me. Do you know what I can do about this please ???

One other thing, the link for the forced flash update at the top of the forum just brings up rubbish. Do you have the instructions ??

Please make sure that you are downloading the firmware from  your regional support page.  Then follow this.

I managed to get the Updater to try and install new firmware laser night and I thought it had worked but then didn't finish the reboot procedure and then gave me the 4 flashes of doom from the error light. I think the device must be bricked.

Any suggestions how I can retrieve any data ? I think there are unbacked up photos (I literally just lent out my backup drive - blinkin typical !!!). Would the drive fit into a different caddy or linkstation ? Could I read it off with a Linux PC ?

I have similar symptoms.  After leaving my HS-DHGL powered down for a  month it won't restart.

I have tried using LSUpdater whhich appears to install something and reboots the device, but the boot sequence does not finish.

I have also seem instances of the beeping and four flashes of the error light.  Also my fan is not turning.

I'd really like to know where the problem may be.  Is the issue likely to be in the drive or not?  I'm happy to buy another unit s I can swap the drives over if that would let me get the data off.

This seems to be a fairly common pproblem so but I have not been able to find any solution,

I got annoyed and just took the disk out and dumped it. I hope the disk is OK so I just need some XML software now !!!!. I ended up buying a Netgear Stora as this looks all too common in the Buffalo devices although I guess they all have their problems !!

I've given up too.  I took the disk out and mounted it in a pc then used UDF Explorer (highly recommended - all files copied without any errors) to copy the files to another drive.  Saved me having to copy my entire CD / DVD collection again.  I'll reformat the drive from the LiveStation and if it passes some diagnostics I can resuse it elsewhere.  I'm rather unhappy that Buffalo tech support have not been able to resolve this seemingly common problem.  The LiveStation costs about twice as much as a bare drive and is now just a plastic brick.

Try this then try the force firmware.

Thanks Josh, I did try this but couldn't get it to connect, it doesn't ask for the update. I tried the normal update again and it returns this error "HS-DHGL-EM1D2 returns an error. (ACP-STATE-FAILURE) Updating is aborted."

You can try this but you will lose the data on it.  If you have a back up then try this with the boxes check for "rebuild partition table" and "delete user config".

If you need the data recovered then  please contact Drive Savers.
