Linkstation Live disk error, but which disk?

I have a LinkStation Live (Model: LS-CHL F/W 1.02), 500GB. I have a 500GB USB disk connected also.

I am receiving occasional disk error emails like these:

DISK Error Notification

HDD error occurred
Disk(s) the error occurred:UnknownDisk()

(sdb) WRITE sector:63 count:2
Disk writing error
Some data may not be recoverable.
Immediate change of disk is recommended.

Which disk is it referring to? 'sdb' might imply the second disk, ie the USB disk. I have done a disk check on both internal and USB disk, but with no errors reported.

This is referring to the USB hard drive, you may want to format it and copy your data back on the drive.  Also make sure your firmware is up to date.

OK, thanks. Could I suggest that the developers be asked to make the error message clearer in future?

I am already running 1.02 firmware, which I believe is the latest version.

I will use a different USB disk for a while. I only use it as a backup of the internal disk.

This begs a different question, though. The system should not have been writing anything to the USB disk at that time. Is there anything which would be writing to this disk other than the disk backup program?

Hi,

 I receive the same message from my Linkstation Live, ( firmware 1.02 and an ubs disk connected all the time used one time by day for backup)

DISK Error Notification

Disk(s) the error occurred:UnknownDisk()

(sdb) WRITE sector:63 count:2

Disk writing error
Some data may not be recoverable.
Immediate change of disk is recommended.

Make sure the firmware is updated and set the unit back to factory defaults

Myself and the subsequent poster both said that we are on firmware 1.02. I think this is the latest version. If it is not, where do we find out which is?

Also, why should we need to reset to defaults? Presumably this would mean we have to reset all sorts of things like users, shares, and backup schedules.

Paul

Even if you are on the latest version of the software, it could be corrupted.  Setting the unit back to factory does wipe user config settings, however it forces the unit to boot off of the new firmware.
