After creating users and applying to folder to enable me to use ftp i have now been locked out of Web Admin and any shares!

I have not changed the default web admin username / password and havent forgotten the 2 users / password but the linkstation will not allow me access to either the web admin or the shares!

I have searched the forum and tried resetting device using the function button but that has only changed the ip from static to dhcp.  i still cant gain access.

Other people seem to have had the same problem.  This is definately a 'feature' !!!!!!

I will be in a world of pain if i cant gain access to the data...

I need to reset password and gain access somehow!

Please help!

For accessing the data: try disconnecting from all mapped shares and rebooting the computer.  Then access via "\\IP" and put in your credentials again.  This should work.

For the admin password:  All that you can try is the reset procedure and the force firmware update with "delete user config" checked.

Well done Buffalo!!! Congratualtions once again on destroying another Linkstation Live...

Why after reading so many posts from users dating back over 2 years have you as a company not fixed the underlying root cause, its just not acceptable!

This all started after I created users for ftp web access and then my linkstation locked up resulting in me loosign everything! the default admin password no longer worked or shares....

The standard password reset, pressing function key and the firmware update is a joke!

Its the last time i buy Buffalo and will be replacing the unit I have at work and will also be sharing my experience with colleages and friends at how unhelpful Buffalo are regarding this!

Thanks for loosing everthing once again .....

Absolute disgrace!

Stuart.

Please can you provide details of your complaints procedures.

This is just not good enough to ignore issues.

I have a broken Linkstation Live due to Buffalo and cannot retrieve the data.

I will obtain a quote for disaster recovery of the device and send this together with my complaints letter.

Thanks once again for the lack of supprot.

1. You messages are posted 6 hours apart, an immediate response is not always possible.

2. You don't you keep a backup of any important data? This is common IT practice and should always be done, i would be highly surprised if Buffalo pay for this.

3. Contact your local support so any complaint can be addressed.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
Having network issues? Drop me an email: info@interwebsireland.com and we will get it fixed!

Have i helped you? Buy me a coffee as a thanks!

A standard answer 'backup' which is not the point.  The device is new and locked after applying user restrictions.  This is not an issolated incident but stretches back over 2 years and many users yet buffalo refuse to fix the fault but instead are being negligent in shipping defective devices due to bugs in firmware and then simply argue that users should have backups as they will need it if using buffalo products.

Even passing the buck for complaints procedure.  Surely Buffalo as a global entity have a common complaint procedure or maybe you simply dont know.  I will ring 'local' buffalo office.

We have yet to have this issue reported in the states, therefor we have not been able to test the issue.  I would recommend asking you local support for help with this problem.  I will forward this forum to my supervisor for you, other than that complaints will also have to be filed locally.

Thank you for escelating this.  I will contact local support to excelate here.

Please look in this forum as many others have had lock out problems and are unable to reset device.  There is an issue which needs resolving as it hsould happen just by creating users / restrictions etc.

Let me know what your supervisor has to say.

"Let me know what your supervisor has to say."

He said the same thing that I told you.  This problem could not be replicated and we have yet to get a US unit with this problem in for testing therefor as of this moment there is nothing to "fix".  This is why you will want to contact your local support.  If the issue is widespread in the US then we should be able to get a unit in for testing.  I apologize for the inconvenience.
