Hi,

I have a Buffalo Linkstation with 2 HDDs (3TB) in RAID 1.

Recently, I had to replace an HDD; after nearly 30 hours of rebuilding, my NAS is running with 2 drives again (a new 4TB and an 'old' 3TB). Now I want to replace the old 3TB drive with a new 4TB drive as well. I think the old one is going to fail soon too; it has been running for over 10 years now.

Can I shut down the NAS, take out the old drive, and put in the new drive? Followed by a rebuild? Will I get the full 4TB then, or do I have to rebuild the entire RAID to utilize the full capacity?

What ever the capacity of the RAID array is when it is initially created is what it will be stuck at regardless of rebuilding with larger drives.

To get access to the full capacity of the new drives you will need to delete the current RAID array and create a new one.
