LinkStation LS220D0802

I attempted to replace the two 4TB drives with two 8TB drives.
I have the data backed up so data retention is not relevant.

I followed the steps here to restore firmware on the new drives via TFTP:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Restoring_Stock_Firmware_via_TFTP

After I got the device into Emergency mode, I started the Firmware updater.
About 20 minutes into the LSUpdater job, it said it lost connection for over 1200 seconds.

It now just powers on with an instant solid red power LED, as well as the two hard drive LEDs (all 3 solid red, no, blinking).
I know the hard drives are good because I can mount them and still modify partitions.

The original drives now also cause the same set of lights, even though those are still good drives that haven't been modified and still contain the stock firmware.

Any advice? Could that have somehow fried the board itself?

One these devices the bootrom sets all the LEDs to red then the bootloaders turns them off and starts using them to communicate state in various combinations. All the LEDs being stuck red indicated the bootloader is failing to start.

That's usually a hard state to get into, though something going wrong with a firmware update could do it if it was trying to reflash/upgrade the bootloader and it got interrupted or something.

I know at least one person has recovered from that state using an SPI programmer and SOIC8 clip to reflash the bootloader.

Solid red LED would usually mean the PSU has an issue, are you sure you're using the correct one? Check it's passing 12v 4amp.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.
