RAID is not a replacement for a backup! Here's why.

I have a Windows 7 PC.  Quad Core, 3GB ram.

Buffalo LS-W1.0TGL/R1-US.

Firmware 3.10

Using it as a raid, for backups and such.

Mapped to Z: on my computer.

Linksys wireless G router, current firmware--and am trying to connect also through ethernet port direct--also updated firmware.

It is excruciatingly slow.  Sometimes takes a minute or two just to navigate to another folder.

I can barely get my files off of the thing.

I try restarting, restoring factory settings.

I turned off Windows Firewall.

This is awful, unusable, and I have a lot of files that I need on the drive.  I bought a RAID thinking

I would be protected if a drive went bad, never imagined that it would be so slow.

Please help!  I will monitor this and try whatever you suggest!

Thanks!
