My Linkstation Live CH500L has gone into EM Mode and I am unable to update the firmware (complains about partitions problems on drive).

I'd like to get the hard drive out to stick in a USB cradle but don't see any obvious way to open it up.

Can anyone help me?

Disassembly of the product voids warranty so we cannot give instructions on how to perform the operation you requested.

I am in the same boat with my buffalo drive and am look ing for a solution to get my data back while still honoring my warranty.  It seems reasonable that Buffalo do an RMA and send a new drive with the recovered data on it.

Ray, we do not warrant data.  There are only two ways to recover the data and keep your warranty in tact;

Either recover from your backups or go through drivesavers (a thrid party data recovery company).

We apologize for the inconvenience

My Linkstation is out of the warranty period anyway so this is of no use to me. I just want to recover my data. Please give me a hint as to how to do this.

Thanks

I would do a search on google for it as this (disassembling) is not something that we support doing, nor is it something that we want to be posted on this forum.  I am sure there is documentation elsewhere.  I can tell you that you can explore hooking the drive up to a linux machine (LS uses XFS format) or try software programs (like UFS explorer) to recover the data once the drive is out and connected to a computer.

Also understand that any data recovery you attempt could hinder the chances of 3rd party recovery companies recovering the data.
