Terastation disc checks everytime I try to put something on it

So I bought  terastation off of somebody that seemed to be in good shape and was 'told' there was nothing wrong. So anyways it is a HD-H1.0TGL/R5-US 1 TB Terastation. It seems that everytime I try to put some files on it the thing will put some (a few gigs) on the drive then it will start disc checking and tell me it can't move any more files. All of the lights on the front of it flash in green color in some kind of sequence. This is very irritating. I've read that if your drive disc checks like that, that it means something is wrong. I HOPE this isn't the case but I am looking to see if someone has had similar problems or maybe an answer.  I am running windows 7 and windows xp on two different machines. My router is a Belkin N (newer model). The firmware on my terastation says 2.16 and fan status says normal. Thanks for any help.

If the disk check does not give you any information regarding which drive or a specific issue that is causing the checks I would recommend deleting the raid array and re-creating it.  I know it will be tough to backup your data, but it is probably the best way to isolate the issue.  If you see any read lights flashing for a specific drive then I would replace that, as that could be causing this issue.  If the format and recreation of the raid array, then reinitialize the device from the GUI and see if starting off from factory specs fixes the issue.  If that doesn't check out the link for a force firmware and see if that does something for you.

yea I actually have nothing of value on it just yet. I have selected to recreate the raid and its been going for like 2 days now. Ugh! I assume this is normal. The lights are blinking green on STATUS/FULL in which is says in the manual that means formatting or creating raid or something so I guess its okay.
