Dear all, I am a home user currently with synology DSM NAS (918+), but would like to move to windows server as I am heavy windows user. I wanted to stay in windows eco-system. Looking at TeraStation WS5420DN, 4 bay HDD. I have few questions. 1) can I directly swap the HDD from current synology to Tera station ? File system is BTRFS, not sure if terastation can read these files ? 2) can I replace 2 bays with my synology DSM existing 14GB HDDs ? Tera station is going to accept 14GB or is there any limitation of hard disk size ? 3) Can we upgrade RAM from 4GB to say 16 GB for better performance ?

Thanks in advance.

1) can I directly swap the HDD from current synology to Tera station -> No

2) 2) can I replace 2 bays with my synology DSM existing 14GB HDDs ? Technically yes but it might have warranty issues as the units come fully populated.

3) 3) Can we upgrade RAM from 4GB to say 16 GB for better performance ? -> No

Honestly, I don't see the benefit of moving from Synology to Buffalo WSS unless you're using it in a multi forest AD enviroment.

Mine came with 8GB ram, I have not tried upgrading it yet.

DSM will absolutely not run on that hardware without some serious linux wizardry. It may be possible, but likely violates the EULA nine ways to Sunday.
