Password Lost

I currently have a Buffalo TeraStation at my enterprise. The previous user has left, and did not leave his password/ username behind. It's not the default password.
Is there anyway to reset the password without erasing the data on the device?
Any suggestion is appreciated.

It depends on the model, for many there is a procedure which is outlined in the manual.
