New to a NAS or rather trying again, will this work?

I am thinking about getting the two drive system and I have a dumb two drive toaster that I have been using for bulk backups.  I was wondering if I could plug that into the back of the Buffalo box and use that to mirror those drives so I have 8tb to work on my network and then they could be backed up for recovery.  I am awash in drives that are full and most have duplicate low value files.  I need to set up something with a system.  Any advice would be appreciated,
