I ran out of space. Copied data out using the backup feature. It was slow considering I had the drive connected to USB 3 port. I tried HDD and SSD and both got only 20MB/s. After that I put the new and bigger drives back. Created RAID, Sync was also very slow but nevermind. I am now running of out time to do the job. I still need to copy data back to the drive.

Is there a way to connect both drives to SATA on the computer, mount both drives on linux or windows, copy data over SATA and pop the drives with data back to the NAS?

The NAS is LS421DE, RAID1 mirror, XFS file system.

Yes. you can:
connect them to a linux system
start the software raid (mdadm)
mount the xfs filesystem and copy files
unmount, disconnect, and put back

depending on the linux system you may need to install mdadm first.
