hi,

trying to upgrade a linkstation quad with 4 new 1.5TB WD Caviar Greens.

tried to install the firmware using tftp boot recovery LS-QTL 1.04 and then firmware update lsql 1.11 with all 4 drives in it. but it wouldnt boot after installing. I then tried the firmware installation with just 1 drive in it, and then everything works fine. it boots and i could use the share and configure through the nas through the backend.

Then I connected the other 3 drives to my pc and removed the partition tables from them to get 3 clean drives, and added them to the ls quad, hoping i could build the raid5 array then. But it wont boot with any number of the additional drives. The red LED flashes 6 times. I guess that means E06?

Remove the additional drives again and the the first one boots again.

How do i get this to work?

It's possible that one of those HDD is bad.  Have you confirmed if they are all working properly?

the drives are ok.

heres an update: I took every drive and put it in the linkstation alone and was able to install the firmware with tftp boot and force firmware update. They boot when alone in the LS, also 2 of those drives together boot. but 3 or all 4 of those drives dont boot (6 red LED flashes).

In an earlier attempt I had all 4 drives in the LS, booted from tftp, did the force firmware update, but then it wouldnt boot (6 red LED flashes). I then had it boot from tftp again and it then somehow loaded the system on the HDDs and i could setup an raid 5 and it also finished the check succesfully after like 36 hours. But it wouldnt boot by itself.

bump...

how can i get 4 new wd caviar green 1.5TB drives to work in a Linkstation Quad with Raid 5.

I keep getting 6 red led flashes.

From what I have seen that unit can only handle 1tb drives if it is being upgraded form a smaller drive size.
