Network throughput to linkstation ls220db drops to 0

I recently purchased an 8Tb SOHO unit and am experiencing terrible throughput from a Windows 10 PC. Copying a large amount of data, about 750gb, to the device. The transfer rate varies from about 2mb then down to 0, then repeats. If I initiate a transfer from another Windows PC the throughput on both rises to 10-20mb on both systems, and sustains as long as both are transferring. Once it goes back to one system it goes back to the slow transfer rate. They are on a gigabit switch. Any suggestions about what my problem might be?
