TeraStation 5420DN not connecting at startup
« on: March 29, 2020, 07:39:43 AM »
I have been tracking the times when the TeraStation doesn't connect at startup for over a month now.  I am using Windows 10 Pro.  I check the status of the drives every morning now and a simple click on the drive will connect it.

Any idea about what is happening?  Any suggestions for fixing this?

  • There's no problem so bad you cannot make it worse

I have a vague idea why that may be happening.

I believe the credentials for the share are probably in some secure windows storage that isn't unlocked until you actually log in. I don't really know why it doesn't then connect once you've logged in. I've seen more or less the same thing in the past for windows systems connecting to samba shares.

If it's causing you trouble you could probably create a quick login script that behaves similar to clicking on the drive in explorer.
Code: [Select]
dir Z:\
That might cause it to connect right away when you log in.

This has been a known issue with windows for some time now.
To my knowledge, there is no fix other than to run a logon script or mapping file after login.

You may want to check out to the links I put in this post.
