HS-DH500GL and freelink
« on: February 24, 2019, 12:02:38 PM »

hello guys,
i have an old HS-DH500GL that the hdd died, i decided to  buy a new hdd and replace it (2TB), sounds good deal, i installed the new hdd, with no big issues (v. 2.10). then I decided to flash it with freelink....

i follow the instructions one by one, rebooted, but always start in emergency mode, and alway try to get the initrd.buffalo & uImage.buffalo from the TFTP server,

https://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/FreeLink_for_the_LinkStation_PRO/LIVE#How_to_use_the_Buffalo_updater_LSUpdater.exe

i have access to the telnet after use this command (java -jar acp_commander.jar -t 192.168.11.150 -o) and made all the modification the instructions said, but those modifications disappear after reboot.

I don't know what is happening, please help me to make this work.

Thank you

I don't think freelink has been developed in over a decade. fortunately, in that time folks made a lot of process in getting these devices supported in mainline Debian

I think this installer will probably work for that device:
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-armel/current/images/orion5x/network-console/buffalo/lspro_ls-gl/

I've got  placeholder page up which links to some resources explaining how the process works:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Installing_Debian_on_Supported_Devices

basically you can follow the TFTP process that you're already using, just use the *.buffalo files from the above link. The device should boot into the debian installer and be available via ssh. From there you can run through the debian installer and get up and running on a current version of Debian
