RAID1 OR RAID0?
« on: July 06, 2011, 03:12:35 PM »

I'm worried about the NAS falling on the floor (from out of reach of our toddler) or maybe water damage.  Does Raid0 setting help at all if those (along with theft) are my biggest concerns? thx.

How the hell would any kind of raid protect against a devices falling or a kid getting at it?

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Yes it would work but you'd need to be an expert to retrieve like three quarter of the file and the other quarter will be lost.

Really funny.

Now seriously, RAID0 is more dangerous than normal mode.  If one disk dies, the data of both drives are lost.

If you have RAID 1, then the data is still safe if one disk survives, so chances are slightly better.

In any case, you should have a backup.

thanks all.  i was (and still am) hoping for at least some anecdotal evidence on whether a banged up / water damaged NAS has significantly better chance of survival if Raid0.  common sense tells me that, yes, because it'll likely only fall on one side, the other drive would be likely to survive.  Likewise with slight water damage. but again all speculation and wanted to get buff tech support but 10 min hold and counting was enough to send me to this forum.  I welcome all serious answers and am fine with lectures, etc.

Yes it has, and you can also use cloud systems to make it even better. But you will loose data.

Why would you let your LS in a vulnerable place.  Jus buy a 300 ft long ethernet cable and connect it away from kid's reach.
