LinkStation LS220D - spin down drives when idle ?

I have a Linkstation LS220D since about a week, and for the most part it works just the way I want it to. Read/Write speed is really impressive in this price range.
However I'm really missing an option to have the unit spin down the drives when it's not in use. The LS220D came installed with two WD Green 4TB drives, and since these are intended for desktop use I'm worried that they are not going to last very long if kept running 24x7.

In the User Manual there is a description of the "NAS Navigator2" program for MacOS, where there is an option for "Auto Power Mode" - "Auto power mode can turn supported TeraStations and LinkStations on the network on and off automatically". http://buffalo.jp/support_s/guide2/manual/ls/200/99/en/pc_index.html?Chapter9#h2anc0
This option is not available in the Windows version of NAS Navigator2, so I have not been able to test if this works on the LS220D. (I don't own a Mac)

So my question is if this setting actually exists? So I can borrow a Mac and change the setting, and then have the LS220D work the way I want?
Or can I expect this feature in a not so distant firmware update?

(I know about the scheduled shutdown that can be configured in the Web UI, but that is of no use to me. For home use I want the nas to be available whenever I need to use it.)

There is no spin down / auto mode on the 220. Only the sleep timer.
