Hi I have a WS5400DN that I need to restore.  I think the OS got corrupt.  I don't care about losing data there was almost nothing on it.

I have the usb drive that came with it.  I never opened it until I needed it and when I try to boot with it I get red lcd screen flashing and it says "Boot Fail."  Shouldn't I be able to boot to that USB key and it will "fix" itself?  I also have the mini sd card that came with it that looks to have the Windows Storage Server OS on it.  Not sure what I am supposed to do with that.  I am a Systems Admin by trade and don't understand why this is so difficult!!!

Any help would be great.

Thanks in Advance.

Did you actually put the mini SD card into the USB disk when trying to restore?

I did not.  I looked at the usb device to see if that was possible but I didn't see how that could be done.

I saw a picture of one with the mini sd card in it but mine doesn't look like the picture I saw.  Maybe I am missing something.

yes you are, the Mini SD card needs to be inserted into the USB stick, then follow the recovery process. To be fair, its not a difficult process.

I looked specifically to do that last night and could not find where to put that thing.  I'll look again when I get home tonight.  It doesn't have a slot to insert from the outside.  Do you have photo of how it goes in?

Thanks for your help.

Texturtle

Here's a picture of the drive with the MicroSD card partially inserted.

Hmmm ok, I didn't notice a slot like that, but I'll give it another look see tonight.

Thanks

Success!  I can't believe I didn't see that slot in the USB drive.  I even saw the picture before but never saw it on my usb drive.  I am back up and running.

Thanks so much for everyone's help!
