BDXL Blu-Ray Writer power problem.
« on: January 13, 2014, 06:43:27 PM »
Need an opinion. I purchased the Blu-Ray writer over the weekend and am using it to write all our home movies and pictures to Blu-Ray so that I can back them up. When I connect the writer to the usb hub that is connected to my laptop the light on it turns red and it doesnt work. If I connect it directly to my laptop all is fine. Even when I connect the double usb connector to the usb hub the light remains red. I am assuming this means that my usb hub does not have enough power to run the writer. So what I did was I connected one of the ends of the dual usb cable that came with the writer to a power supply like that of an iphone which gives out only 5volts and the other end to the usb hub. The writer seems to be working great now. My worry is that this will fry the writer? Is this ok to run it this way? Or should I look into a better usb hub?

Anyone? It seems to working fine. Used it a few times yesterday and this morning but I am wondering what the long term effect is going to be?
