300 Mb/s possible
« on: August 03, 2011, 03:24:36 PM »

I realize nobody will ever see 300Mbps throughput. Having said that, after following the admin FAQ#2:

---

The specific settings that allow for 300mbps or 150mbps depending on the router are:

Wireless mode- NG mixed (only required to change on DDWRT firmware)

Security - WPA2/PSK - Mixed Mode with TKIP+AES mixed mode

Wireless channel width 40mhz (20mhz for the 150mbps model)

With these settings customers should be able to get the best speed. If customers change the security to a lower form of security the speed might be reduced to G speeds.

---

on my WZR-HP-G300NH running DD-WRT build 16785, on Status/Sys-info/Wireless (ath0) Rate I see 260 Mb/s. Has anybody seen the radio display 300 Mb/s?

A related question, wouldn't WPA2 Personal with AES be quicker than mixed mode security TKIP+AES? Thanks for any help!

i am using no encryption/security on my router, but i have MAC security enabled...i have been getting speeds between 270-300mpbs consistently....And it also depends on the distance of the client from ap. If using security, use mixed mode on user friendly f/w and wpa2 aes on ddwrt for best results. also make sure the wireless channel has no interference.

What does DD-WRT report on this page for you, regardless of what your connecting clients report? Thanks!

i am using the USER FRIENDLY F/W 1.76 on my router. As i had mentioned in the previous posts, ddwrt doesnot give best performance or throughput. If you want security+performance you should try gargoyle or openwrt.

To answer your question on wireless security, yes WPA2 with AES only is better and very much required for N spec. Also, 260 is pretty normal, because of wireless, you have to factor in overhead framing etc. I rarely have had a straight up 300, most times mine is 260 even on my other N spec routers/models.
