Linkstation 500gb - HS-DH500GL - repeated usbdisk1 directory

   I am trying to add an additinal usb drive to my linkstation live.  When I first added the disk it was formatted ntfs and I couldn't write to it.  Then I figured it needed to be formatted to xfs.  I did this via the web interface and now there are repeated usbdisk1 folders on the disk.  There is a usbdisk1 directory right after formatting and that directory contains another usbdisk1 and on and on.  It cannot delete because of so many directory levels.  I am running 2.11 firmware.  The fat32 format doens't do that but I still can't copy files directly to it that way.  I already tried to restore defaults and start from scratch.  What is the resolution?

Reformat the USB disk with your computer, then try it again. Make sure you have the latest firmware, and have reset the Linkstation to defaults.

Tried that already.  I reset defaults and did a format disk.  Dumb thing doesn't finish after a full day.  The web interface still says it is formatting.  The yellow light blinks on the unit and that is all.  Powered it off and then on and tried a format all disks.  Its been almost a day again and still formatting.  Latest firmware is had and it won't let me update again because it is already there.  Now I can't even get the disk formatted. 

 

I'm a developer so I've used a lot of products but this thing is so slow and has so many issues I'm about done with buffalo.  Was this thing a terrible product or is this the general performance of buffalo products?
