LS-WVL/E - Unable to Login as Admin (Solved)

After changing the IP address of my Buffalo Linkstation LS-WVL/E (firmware 1.60) I was no longer able to log in as admin. I could login as a user, and I could read my files from the device, but I couldn't login as admin on the web admin page. I tried powering the unit down and I tried different browsers, but nothing worked.

Finally, I called tech support and they gave me the following solution:

  1. Power off the unit
  2. Hold down the function buttion and power on the unit; continue holding the function button for 20 seconds.
  3. Release the function button
  4. Press and release the function button twice
  5. Wait for the unit to boot

The process resets the unit to get its IP address from the DHCP server and it resets the login to the default, which is User = "admin" and Password = "password." I was then able to log in to the unit as admin.

I should note, however, that after doing this procedure the username and password didn't work the first time I tried it. I had to try it twice to get it to go. This might have had something to do with the cache on my browser. When I tried it with a different browser, it worked the first time.

I hope this helps someone.
